ELECTRONICS RECYCLING and PAPER SHREDDING EVENT

Since 2007, the RCPAAA Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding Event has provided residents with a convenient way to safely recycle unwanted electronics, securely destroy sensitive documents, and support programs benefiting the Richardson Police Department.

Held each Spring and Fall, this popular community event helps reduce landfill waste, protect citizens from identity theft, and raise funds that support scholarships, retired police K9s, employee appreciation initiatives, and other RCPAAA programs.

What began as a small community service project has grown into one of the organization's most successful fundraising and outreach efforts, serving thousands of residents throughout the Richardson area.

Cars and trucks lined up to recycle paper and electronics in 2023. Avoid the lines, arrive after 11:30 am and before 2:00 pm.

On average, ten tons of paper are shredded during this event helping keep personal information safe from bad actors.

Event Details

When

  • Spring Event (typically April, in conjunction with Trash Bash)

Accepted Electronics

  • Computers and accessories
  • Printers
  • Televisions (flat-screen only)
  • Cell phones
  • Cables and small electronics
  • Most consumer electronic devices and accessories

Not Accepted

  • Tube-style televisions and tube style computer monitors
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Batteries
  • Hazardous materials

Paper Shredding

  • Up to 5 boxes: Free (donations encouraged)
  • More than 5 boxes: Minimum donation of $5 per additional box
  • Please remove paper from three-ring binders before arrival
  • Bring documents in grocery bags or small boxes

With so many cars coming through, volunteers must keep their head on a swivel.

Long time volunteer, Tom Rohm, is always one of the first to volunteer and always has a smile.
And the event could not be as successful as it is without the help of RISD volunteers.
