In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating “National Correctional Officers’ Week.” Each year, the first full week in May is recognized as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions of correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country.
Each year, the Richardson Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association provides a hot meal for every member of the Richardson Police Department. All three shifts will be fed including those working off-site (Detention, Dispatch, and Professional Standards). This event is not open to the public.
The Spring Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding event has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 1st at the same location, southeast corner of Belt Line and Plano Roads in Richardson, the parking lot east of the old Sears store at the Richardson Square Mall. The event will open at 9:00 am and last until 1:00 pm.
You may bring any type of electronic device EXCEPT for the old “tube” style TVs and monitors (CRTs). Also, anything electronic related will be accepted but please, no batteries or liquids.
If donating old computers, it is suggested that you remove your hard drive or perform a “wipe” of that hard drive that meets the US Department of Defense standard (Google it).
All types of paper can be shredded but please remove paper from 3-ring binders before arriving at the event.
There is no cost for this event but it is a fundraiser for the Richardson CPAAA and you will be asked to donate to help us continue our support of the Richardson Police Department. We are a 501 (c) 3 organization and a Donation Receipt can be given if requested.
Thank you for your support.
The Richardson Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association was officially incorporated on June 2, 1993. This year marks our 26th year of supporting the Richardson Police Department.

The Public Safety Expo is a free family friendly event for anyone interested in getting a closer look at police and fire operations as well as learning how to make their home and neighborhood safer. The Public Safety Expo provides an opportunity for an up close look at the various vehicles used by first responders and see demonstrations by some of our operational units. It also helps us to educate the public in a fun and interactive way. Contact our Crime Prevention Unit if you have questions at 972-744-4955.
